Bonn, 11 June, 2013: DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, revamps its spare part delivery solution available for aftermarket logistics in the automotive industry by improving delivery times and carbon-efficiency. The company will use its network of local distribution centers and additionally utilize electric vehicles for the delivery of spare parts in metropolises in Europe, Asia and Americas. Here, DHL capitalizes on its cooperation with global vehicle manufacturer Renault, which contributes with know-how on fleet management and electric cars based on the Kangoo model.

Unlike the common way to deliver spare parts to workshops and car dealers up front based on expected needs, DHL employs just in time deliveries, which reduces stock for manufacturers and car dealers. Like in a modern production plant, material required for maintenance and repair are only ordered when they are needed. Finally, the proximity of logistics facilities ensures that car dealers receive spare parts much more rapidly, often no more than 2.5 hours after placing their order. The solution is already available in various European cities in the UK, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway as well as in China, Los Angeles and Miami. It is based on DHL’s extensive logistics network and cross-divisional collaboration: DHL Supply Chain will be handling warehousing, waste management and order management, while DHL Express will be taking care of the transportation.
