Internet (1) - An electronic network of computers that includes nearly every university, government, and research facility in the world. Also include are many commercial sites. The Internet is the closest thing that we have the Information Superhighway. It started with four interconnected computers in 1969 and was known as ARPAnet. In a production and inventory control context, the activity is normally the procurement of materials or product from either an outside supplier or a company's own manufacturing facility.
